It’s Official: Samsung Sends Out Invites For Unpacked Event Where Galaxy Note 9 Will Be Unveiled


Samsung has just issued invites to its next big media event. The simple but highly elegant invites have been issued to the press outlets and technology influencers and confirm that the UNPACKED event will take place in New York City on August 9th, 2018.

As with most UNPACKED events, the South Korean company will use the time to talk about company performance and discuss an array of products and services, which are either currently in the marketplace or which will be getting released soon thereafter.

Given that we have been seeing an influx of information falling into the public domain relating to Samsung’s next large-screened phablet, it’s reasonable to assume that the flagship announcement during the UNPACKED event will be the Galaxy Note 9.

It’s actually quite difficult to believe that the Note range of devices has been around since way back in 2011. The world mocked Samsung when it took the opportunity to introduce a smartphone of monolithic proportions and just naturally assumed that the hardware wouldn’t catch on and that consumers would always prefer a device with a much smaller and screen and greater portability.

The original Note may have blurred the lines between a smartphone and a tablet but it’s gone from strength-to-strength over the years. Of course, you need to forget about the catastrophe that was the Note 7 which ended in a global recall due to a tendency to overheat and explode.

If the rumors and leaks are to be believed, the Note 9 could come equipped with a fairly impressive S-Pen overhaul, which seems to be nailed on given the visual design of the issued invites. Other than that, it doesn’t look as though the whole device is going to benefit from wholesale changes, with most analysts and industry insiders expecting Note 9 to be extremely close in physical and functional design to last year’s Note 8 hardware. If UNPACKED 2018 does focus on the Note 9 hardware, then we can expect the S-Pen to be the center of that announcement.

Samsung has generally moved away from making big announcements at trade shows in recent years, instead favoring to host its own media events under its own conditions. Let’s hope this next one is a big one with plenty to get excited about.
