The Microsoft Build conference is a big one for the company and with Joe Belfiore now set to take to the stage until tomorrow, Microsoft has released some information on what we can expect him to talk about when he does. While Timeline coming to Microsoft Launcher will no doubt be well received by those watching the show, it is the arrival of a new app that has us the most interested in proceedings.
Your Phone will apparently be a new UWP app that will connect your PC to, you guessed it, your phone.
According to Microsoft, the new app will allow a “seamless transition of content” between a computer and a smartphone with that including things like photos, messages, and even notifications. The theory goes that you will be able to take a photo on your phone and then drag it into a document on your computer without ever having to touch your phone once the image is taken.
We’ll have to reserve judgement on that until we use it ourself, but there is little doubting the fact that the premise is one that piques the interest.
Microsoft continues to work to close the gap between Windows 10 computers and smartphones running both Android and iOS, with this being the latest example of that ongoing mission.
If the Your Phone idea sounds familiar, don’t worry – this is apparently a different app to the now defunct Phone Companion app, and Microsoft says that the new iteration will start to roll out to Insiders soon. Interestingly, however, it can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store right now, although it’s unclear whether that was intentional or not.
